Can’t believe it’s already May? Us neither. Despite finally having some actual spring weather in NYC, we know our LA friends are doing anything they can to cool down in their pre-summer heat wave. Summer, with all its rooftop BBQs, pool parties, beach bonfires, summer Fridays and vacations, is so close we can almost taste it! Even though the promise of summer should be enough to get us out of bed, those late nights of cramming for your last finals or a few too many happy hour cocktails have left us sleep deprived and wanting those extra 15 minutes. Here are a few tips to get you up and feeling refreshed throughout the day!
1. Don’t hit Snooze.
We’re all guilty of hitting snooze 15 times or setting seven different alarms to get us out of bed. But believe it or not, studies have shown those few extra minutes don’t allow you to fall back into a deep and restful sleep. Which in turn leaves you feeling groggy and wondering how Beyonce ever “woke up like dis.” SO, you’re better off setting your alarm for the time you want need to wake up. Letting yourself sleep until then will actually help you feel less tired when you do manage to get yourself out of bed.
2. “Waterrrrr!” (Said in Spongebob Voice)
When we sleep, we tend to become dehydrated. Drinking a glass of water right when you get up will make you feel more energized and give your metabolism a kick start for the rest of the day. Uh thank you water, you’re kinda wonderful.
3. Let there be Light.
Though we all love to slumber in a dark Neanderthal like cave (aka block that bright sun out), it makes waking up that much harder. Before you go to bed, slide your curtain to the side or pull up your blinds a bit to let some natural light in. Allowing soft sunlight to wake up is much more peaceful than the blaring sound of your Marimba ringtone.
4. Move Yo Body Girl.
Whether its an early morning trip to the gym, your favorite yoga class or even five minutes of stretching once you start moving you immediately will feel more rejuvinized. Not only will it get your metabolism going but it will allow you to focus better throughout the day. Sounds good to us!
5. Pump it Up with a Morning Playlist.
An upbeat playlist with some killer tracks will immediately put some pep in your step and leave you ready to start the day. We can’t stop listening to “Summer” by Calvin Harris.
6. Eat Breakfast.
Research shows that eating a protein rich breakfast will give you more energy throughout the day, and keep you fuller longer.
